REEL:

The Shimano Calcutta has been a longstanding workhorse in Shimano's stable of quality reels. The range has seen some modifications in recent times and now features a strong cold forged body and frame. This traditional series also features a multi disc carbon drag, which dissipates heat in the drag evenly and exerts very high drag pressures.

Each model has an anodised body and spool so they are up to the pressures of regular saltwater use. They also have a larger style handle with rubberised grips, Super Stopper, Assist Stopper and run smoothly on three of Shimano's patented A-RB Bearings plus one roller bearing.

The Calcutta has been catching fish in New Zealand for over two decades, and is set to do so for many years to come.

The Shimano Vortex family of rods feature a power-carbon blank specially designed to take knocks, an integrated glass tip so as to retain sensitivity from the bite to the fight and also enhance overall performance without compromise.

These features allow anglers to take full advantage of more traditional bait fishing techniques, surfcasting options, landbased rock fishing, straylining with overhead reels and deploying baits in to the benthos for hapuku and the like.
